General Questions

From April 15 to November 15, more than 11,000 BIXI bikes will be waiting for you at over 900 stations in 9 cities across Greater Montreal.

As part of a pilot project, the service is offered year-round since November 16, 2023! Full details here.

Anyone 14 years of age or older and over 1.24 metres (4’1”) can operate a regular BIXI. In order to rent an electric BIXI, users between 14 and 17 years of age must have a Class 6D licence authorizing them to drive a moped. Their membership is the responsibility of their legal guardian and must be purchased by the latter.

BIXIs and their stations are part of a single network. From April 15 to November 15, the BIXI Montréal network includes 865 stations spread out across the areas of Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Boucherville, Terrebonne, Westmount, Ville Mont-Royal and Montréal-Est. Memberships and one-way passes allow you to go where you want, from one corner of the street to another as well as from Terrebonne to Boucherville.

For BIXI year-round, find more information here.

Consult the station map here or by downloading the BIXI application.

The pilot territory for the first year will cover approximately 100 km² and include 150 stations available to users. The pilot project will cover an area encompassing 7 Montreal boroughs: Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Mercier – Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont – La Petite-Patrie, Sud-Ouest, Ville-Marie and Villeray – Saint-Michel – Parc-Extension.

To ensure safe use, the network is deployed close to travel hubs and snow-cleared bike paths (orange and green line metro stations, REV Saint-Denis-Lajeunesse, Bellechasse and Peel, for example).

The map of stations will be available on the app and on our website in the section: BIXI year-round

We invite users to check the app before each trip. It's the best planning tool. Non-operational stations remaining in the pilot zone will be indicated in grey in the application, and a sign will be displayed on the station to distinguish it from operational stations.

Yes! You can start using your subscription with the BIXI app or your credit card associated with the account.

With Group Ride, you follow the One-Way rates per minute (but avoid the $100 security deposit!). An initial amount is billed per bike for unlocking, and per-minute fees are added to the unlocking fee, depending on the type of bike chosen for a personalized rate.

If the trip timer is still running on the BIXI app, the last bike you rented has not been docked correctly. Please call us at 514-789-BIXI (2494) or 1-877-820-2453. Open 24/7. Take note of the bike number displayed and return to the station where you dropped off the bike. You can find the bike number on the left side of the bike, near the rear wheel. This will allow you to identify your bike so that you can properly return it and complete your trip. The bike is your responsibility until it is safely returned to our network.

  1. Tap the icon at the top left of your screen on the app's main page to access your profile
  2. Press on Settings

You can rent a maximum of 2 bikes with the same account when using the BIXI app.

In this case, the rates indicated are applicable for each bike rented. Please note that a security deposit of $100 per bike is held on your credit card and will be released by your financial institution.

BIXI key

As of the 2021 season, the BIXI key is no longer be offered upon purchase of a first membership. All users are invited to download the app to unlock BIXI bikes at the stations.

This decision was taken out of environmental concern, to avoid wasting plastic, but also to offer a better BIXI experience. The app doesn’t only allow you to rent bikes, but also to check their availability, consult stations' maps, calculate the duration of your trip, receive promotions, join the Amis BIXI program and access your account.

For users who prefer the key, we still offer exceptional shipments at a cost of $15 (taxes included). To proceed, contact us at 514-789-BIXI (2494) or via our Contact Form confirming the fees and your mailing address.

Do you have a key and have an active membership on your account? Your key is still active! Simply check that the number on the key is the one entered in your account from your BIXI Space on the website.
