BIXI Membership
The seasonal membership and the monthly membership are offered on the website and the mobile app.
The seasonal membership will be available from April 1st, 2024, to May 31, 2024, whereas the monthly membership can be added to your account year-round.
If you do not have Internet access, contact our customer service line at 514-789-BIXI (2494) or at 1-877-820-2453 (open 24/7). Please note that you need a VISA, MasterCard, or AMEX credit card to subscribe and that an email address will be requested. However, there will not be a $100 security deposit placed on your credit card.
For BIXI members, accepted forms of payment are credit card, Visa Debit card (or equivalent), or prepaid credit card.
You also have the option to subscribe without a credit card or prepaid credit card by becoming an additional member. The account and credit card holder will complete the subscription form to add you to the account and purchase a membership for you. This person will become responsible for the account and the financial transactions of all subscribers on their account.
Yes! 45 minutes of regular BIXI travel time are included with your seasonal or monthly membership. Each time you unlock a bike, a new 45-minute period begins. When you ride with the same bike for more than 45 minutes, per-minute rates apply.
A per-minute rate applies from the first minute of your electric BIXI trip.
When you invite a guest to ride with you using Group Ride, the One-Way Pass per-minute rates apply.
For BIXI members, usage fees (if applicable) for trips with an electric BIXI or for those of more than 45 minutes with a regular BIXI are billed on the 20th day of each month. An email is sent to you each month to notify you of the availability of your online statement. The statement is available in your BIXI Space on the website under the Billing Statements section.

No. The seasonal membership validity period ends on November 15 at 11:59 p.m. To use BIXI year-round, we encourage you to purchase a monthly membership now. It will follow your current membership. We remind you that BIXI memberships are offered on an ongoing basis.
A BIXI account holder with a valid credit card on file may pay for the expenses of several members. This person is responsible for the account and financial transactions of all their co-members, i.e., the amount of their respective memberships and their usage fees (if applicable). Only the account holder may renew the memberships of their co-members. If a co-member’s bike is lost, the charges will be billed to the account holder’s credit card. On the 20th day of each month, the account holder will receive an account statement detailing the charges of each member for whom the account holder is responsible.
BIXI One-Way
When you join BIXI with a One-Way Pass, there is a pre-authorization hold of $100 per bike. If you take 2 bikes, the hold amount is $200, with 3 bikes it's $300, and with 4 bikes it's $400.
This is not a charge, you do not pay the pre-authorization. The hold acts as a security deposit for the bike you rent. It gets returned to you, depending on your credit card provider’s processing time.

When is the deposit taken? How can I avoid it?
The deposit is put on hold when you purchase a One-Way pass. When you make another purchase within the next 10 days, the same deposit is used for that new purchase. Note that if you go on a new ride with a friend, another deposit will be taken for the added bike. Also note that if your first purchase was made at a station terminal, and you make a new purchase using the BIXI app, another deposit will be taken since the two transactions will not be linked.
Do you use BIXI often and want to avoid the deposit? Why not consider a monthly membership? BIXI members do not have a deposit in their account, and enjoy 45 minutes included for each regular BIXI trip in addition to benefiting from a reduced cost on electric BIXI trips.
When will the deposit get returned to me?
The pre-authorization is returned to you within a period that depends entirely on your banking institution. Usually, you can expect an approximate period of 10 days before seeing the deposit released.
If you notice that the delay is longer than 10 days, please understand that processing times may vary depending on the type of card used and the bank that issued the card to you. For example, several users who are with Desjardins and our own internal tests have shown that the delay can go up to 20 days. Many users who have not used a Canadian card and our own internal tests have shown that the delay can go up to 30 days. You can contact your banking institution for more details.
With a credit card, the pre-authorization disappears from your pending transactions once released.
I used a Visa Debit card or similar, is the return process different?
While with a credit card the pre-authorization will only be pending, a Visa Debit card will show you the amount debited. Don't worry, this amount will be returned to you within a period that depends on your card provider.

One-ways are available on the BIXI mobile app and at most of the BIXI station kiosks. Payment can be made using a VISA, MasterCard, or AMEX credit card. No. The initial fee simply allows you to proceed with the bike rental by unlocking the bike of your choice. Afterwards, you can cycle for as long as you like, and each minute will be billed individually.

With One-Way trips, the unlock fee is charged to your credit card upon purchase and the usage fees that apply per minute depending on the bike chosen are charged to the credit card after your rental period ends. So don't be alarmed to see your rental in two transactions, the unlock fee will appear the day of your rental and the usage fees will appear the day after your rental.

Pedal and earn points
The icons for stations that need you will have a number and arrow on the map in your BIXI app. The up arrow ↗ means that you should rent a bike and the down arrow ↙ means that you should bring a bike to the station to earn points. Each station can earn you 1-3 points. Stations that need more help will earn you more points. If you rent a bike at a full station and return it at an empty station, you’ll earn points from both stations. And you’ll increase your monthly point total!
On the first day of every month, the monthly total of points will reset to zero.

Earn rewards
Every AMIS BIXI point that you earn is added to your monthly total. When you reach 10 points, you’ll automatically receive an e-mail with a code for a 30-minute electric BIXI ride!* In one month, you can earn up to 40 points, and receive a maximum of 4 free rides. On the first day of every month, the monthly total will reset to zero. At any time, you can view the number of points earned for the year or since you became an Ami BIXI. Even if there’s no reward yet, it’s still satisfying to see all those points!
*For longer rides, the membership’s per-minute rate applies. The code must be used in combination with an active membership during the current season. We reserve the right to take away points and exclude from the Amis BIXI program members who clearly try to outsmart the system, for example, by constantly going back and forth between 2 stations that offer points. This doesn’t help rebalance the network!
